Semantic Search

This course is about semantic search that is a process used to improve online searching by using data from semantic networks to disambiguate queries and web text in order to generate more relevant results.

Firstly, the course defines the terms and introduces the main concepts related to semantic search process, then it presents the semantic search tool called “QualiPSo Semantic Search” which is based on the new Semantic Web technologies and it is thought to improve and augment traditional web searching by the leverage of XML and RDF data in order to increase relevancy of results.

In summary, the course covers:

  • General presentation of the semantic web search.
  • Detailed description of the semantic search process.
  • Introduction to the Knowledge Representation.
  • Presentation of Ontology, Resource Description Framework (RDF), Ontology Web Language (OWL) and SPARQL query Language for RDF concepts.
  • Detailed description of the semantic search tool developed by QualiPSo members.
