Information Management

Implementing best practices in information management to improve the productivity of OSS development and support.

A large amount of information, in the form of documentation, mail messages, wiki postings, bug tracking records, source code files (including comments), CVS and Subversion records, etc. is generated or exchanged by users and developers during the life-cycle of any software development project. To increase users and contractors confidence about the ability to handle problems and exhibit a better performance in OSS projects, QualiPSO will develop Document and Information Management tools to manage and exploit correlation between all items of information that are commonly produced in an OSS project. The activity will involve:

  • The identification of areas where management of information in OSS projects may be improved,
  • The analysis of the structure of information associated to collaborative tool repositories as well as the analysis of Open Source tools that may be used as the basis for document and information management tools,
  • The definition and prototyping of tools that will implement this new information management capabilities,
  • The experimentation with prototyped tools, measuring the impact of their introduction.

As a result, the activity will identity and implement best practices in information management (source code, documentation, etc.) to improve the productivity of OSS development and support. Document and Information Management tools developed within this Activity will be integrated within the QualiPSo Factory infrastructure.
